Ranking of pages with a single keyword.

Ranking of pages with a single keyword: –

1. Analyze the top-ranking pages:

  • Have not already done so, determine which pages rank in the top 5 to 10 positions in the search results.
  • Use the SEO tool to help identify pages.
  • For example, use SpyFu, SERranking, Semrush or Ahrefs to see which pages rank for the target keyword.

Intent

  • When looking at the top pages, what is the purpose of the page? In other words, is there a “buy” intent or a “knowing” intent?
  • If top-ranked pages are information-centric, such as articles or blog posts, the search engine for that keyword indicates that it “knows” the intended purpose.
  • Search engines do their part to address the intent of the searchers.

Word count

  • Word count is a bit controversial when it comes to SEO recommendations because there is no one-size-fits-all answer to how many words should be on a page.
  • Word counting comes into play when looking at top-ranking pages.
  • If those top pages are content-heavy, the glossary article may cause the product page to override, assuming that the glossary article contains more words than the product page.

2. Make adjustments to the content:

  • Find that the intent is “know” or information and that the number of words in the top rank pages is greater than the product page, then you need to get creative with the content on the product page.
  • Adding frequently asked questions when working on e-commerce sites to category and product pages.
  • It adds more content in a helpful way and also improves conversions.
  • Be sure to mark the page with structured data.

3. Focus on the links:

  • When focusing on links, it is best to refer to backlinks and internal links.
  • When linking to internal pages, one must use an optimized anchor text, i.e. keywords.
  • In the case of a product page and glossary article, double-check that the same keyword is not used as the anchor text when linking to those pages.
  • Backlinks are one of the many ranking factors to consider.

4. Consider editing the keyword list:

  • Help place the product page above the glossary article.
  • Think about finding new keywords for the target and updating keyword mapping.
